A young man was shot dead, and five other people were wounded in an attack in Rio Grande Walk in Manenberg on Wednesday evening.
It’s alleged that a silver-grey car stopped in the road, the occupants exited the vehicle and fired several random shots at people standing in front of a property.
Manenberg police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett, says a 22-year-old was killed and four other men wounded. A 56-year-old woman was also injured. He says police officers who were conducting a patrol in the area responded to the sound of the gunshots. When the officers arrived at the scene, the gang fired several shots at them, hitting a 42-year-old officer. The officer sustained deep cuts to the head as shrapnel struck him.
The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.
integrated SAPS operation, which includes metro police and law enforcement, was deployed to search for one of the attackers as he is known to the victims.
