Taxi Violence Claim 6 More Lives

Police in the Western Cape are investigating the murder of two men in Masiphumelele near Ocean View.
Authorities say the killings are believed to be linked to ongoing taxi violence in the area. Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala says officers were called to Pokela Road this morning. On arrival, they discovered the bodies of two men lying in the street. The victims, aged 41 and 42, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were declared dead on the scene. Gwala says the motive is suspected to be taxi-related.
The incident follows another deadly taxi-related shooting earlier on Tuesday 2 June. Four men were killed and two others wounded in Nyanga.

Video footage of the fatal shooting in Nyanga has surfaced showing a man wearing a black beanie and carrying a blue bag approaching parked taxis on the corner of Moonwood Drive and Sheffield Road. Moments later, he is seen opening fire with what appears to be an AK-47 rifle.

Bystanders can be seen running for cover as multiple shots ring out. The gunman targets a minibus taxi, striking at least one individual several times. At the same time, two other armed men appear and fire at a blue vehicle attempting to flee the scene.

The driver manages to escape as the suspects disappear from view. Four adult men were declared dead at the scene, while two others remain in critical condition in hospital.

Meanwhile, the Nyanga Community Policing Forum has urged calm. It is calling for urgent peace talks between rival taxi associations that have been at odds in recent months.
