Crayfish tails and abolone worth R3 million siezed in Mitchells Plain

At least six people have been arrested after abalone and crayfish tails with an estimated street value of R3 million were confiscated in Mitchells Plain.

Local police raided the premises in Oudtshoorn Steet in Portlands following information about abalone. Officers found 136 crayfish tails and more than 4700 shucked abalone.

The suspects between the ages of 22 and 47 face charges related to the possession of abalone without a permit.  They are expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court next week.
