CAPE TOWN – At least five people have been shot in Ivy Road, Parkwood. Two of them were killed and three others wounded. The deceased are a 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg says the mass shooting attack took place yesterday evening.

“Police members attended to the crime scene at the mentioned address where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. The 26- and 28-year-old victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and arrests are yet to be made. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation,” said Twigg.

Cape Town communities particularly those on the Cape Flats have seen a surge in deadly gun violence. Most of the terror is believed to be linked to the urban gang war. There have been mounting calls for government to take effective interventions that are coordinated across departments to counter organised criminality that is holding law abiding citizens hostage and terrorising them.
