Can SA have sober discussions about race?

Have South Africans gotten too comfortable publicly displaying racism? It follows the remarks from local podcasters of “The Open Chat Podcast”, calling coloured people “crazy” and “incestuous”.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) swiftly intervened, followed by political parties calling for the hosts of the podcast to be dealt with for their reckless behaviour in sowing divisions between blacks and coloured. Thereafter, Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader Gayton Mckenzie also came under fire by the SABC in what appeared to be an emotional reaction to the racist remarks by falsely accusing the public broadcaster of airing the episode. What steps are needed to have a sober dialogue on race?

Radio 786’s Tashreeq Truebody and host of News, Reviews and Analysis (NRA) unpacks the topic further with the South African Research Chairperson on The National Question, Professor Rozena Maart.
