Syria’s self-appointed President Ahmad al-Sharaa has confirmed that they are engaging the Israeli regime in indirect talks.
The head of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-led administration says the talks aim to prevent what he calls the spiralling out of control of the situation as the Israel occupation persists with its aggression on Syria.
Al-Sharaa formerly known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani made the remarks during a press conference with the French President Emmanual Macron.
Al-Sharaa further noted that they are reaching out to countries who have established ties with the Zionist entity to ask it to stop the aggression.
It was recently reported that United Arab Emirates which has ties with Israel established a backchannel to facilitate the indirect talks.
Last month, Al-Sharaa travelled to the UAE.
