Mislabelling of Meat Common Practice PDF Print E-mail
The Muslim Judicial Council’s Halaal trust says that Muslim butchers have been found to have fraudulently mixed certain forbidden animal meat products with that of processed meats. The chairman of the trust says he is perturbed by reports that traces of donkey, goat and water buffalo was found in meat tested by Stellenbosch University scientists. However the Trust maintains products certified by it are fully Halaal. These latest findings come months after Orion food cold storage was accused of mislabeling imported kangaroo and pork meat products certified by the MJC as halaal.

Meanwhile the South African National Halaal Trust says mislabeling is common practice. SANHA’s PRO says it cautions against the importation of meat as its halaal status cannot be guaranteed.
